Our history

An old farmhouse, nestled in the gentle hillside of the southern Piedmont region, encircled by fruit orchards and groves of hazelnut trees – this is how it began 30 years ago. But soon Cascina San Giovanni was more than just a Mediterranean farmstead. It was the vision born of regional products, tried and true recipes, traditional cuisine or, simply, of real Italian pleasure!

«Il vero gusto italiano»: This is also Sabine and Dominik Suter’s passion, who have run the manufacturing since 2013. No wonder, as the two Swiss nationals not only have a close relationship with Bel Paese, but immense experience in the hotel and gastronomy industry as well. With Cascina San Giovanni, they are also fulfilling their own personal dream: Authentic Italian delicacies based on the traditional recipes from Nonna’s kitchen.

Our pride

For over 25 years, we’ve been working with the same farmers. By doing so, we can guarantee what’s important to us:

Natural, regional production and fresh ingredients for our specialties – whether pasta or pesto, antipasti or sugo.

Vinegar and olive oil

Many are familiar with balsamic vinegar. But vinegar made from Piedmont grapes? It’s available exclusively from us: The white Aceto di arneis or the red Aceto di dolcetto for example. Our olives are also specially selected, since we only work with producers that we know personally.

Now we’re not taking part in any crusade for the best dried pasta. That’s why we offer both: Pasta all’uovo with extra egg, and pasta dura made from semolina. Incidentally, these are made on work spaces made of bronze, which creates the typical coarse surface of the pasta dura. This ensures that the sauce sticks to the pasta even better.

Amaretti, panettone, tartufi dolci, cantucci – together with selected partners we offer high-quality sweets that represent the best of Italian patisserie. Simply la dolce vita – just for your taste buds.

The secret of a good sugo? Ripe tomatoes and plenty of cooking time. Our sugo simmers on the stove for 24 hours. Because a lot of flavour is based on a lot of patience.

This is such an important chapter in Italian cuisine, that we could write books on it. But to sum up: We pick, cut and fill everything by hand. And it’s unmistakable. The peppers, mushrooms and basil are at the peak of freshness and maturity – you can taste it, guaranteed.
